README.TXT: Atelier Web Firewall Tester (AWFT) ================================== Atelier Web Firewall Tester is a tool for probing Personal Firewall (PFW) software strengths against outbond attempts from network trojan horses and other malware or spyware. A number of existing PFW software is unable to cope with these kind of issues and completely fail on each of the three tests AWFT submit them. Some PFW software have settings which allow some improvements after a few tweaks. You have to try and obtain the best compromise without nullifying the quality of your network experience. Either way, bear in mind: If your PF software does not score 10 on the tests, your system is vulnerable. If it scores nearly 10, this is a good indication that a serious work has been done by your PF software producer to reduce unhautorized outbond traffic risks. TESTS ===== AWFT has six tests for the Personal Firewall Software. On each challenge AWFT will attempt to contact to an outside URL to download a Web page. By default the page is in our site at http://www. atelierweb.com/awft.htm, but the user may select a different URL. Not all tests have the some degree of difficulty, from our point of view, so they are rated differently. The first, second, third and fourth tests are worth 1 point each, the fifth and sixth tests 3 points each. If the PFW blocks the connection attempt it is awarded the points correspondent to the test. If the PFW lets it pass through AWFT is justly awarded such points. Each test is only scored once. To restart the counting you have push the Reset button. REQUIREMENTS ============ AWFT requires the following: * PC compatible with Pentium 250 or higher, 32 or more megabytes of RAM. * Windows NT (SP4 or later), Windows 2000 or Windows XP. * An active connection to the Internet. INSTALLING AWFT =================== When you unzip the distribution you must run the Setup.exe to install the program. REMOVING AWFT ================= To remove this product, go to Control Panel/Add Remove Programs and select AWFT x.x or Atelier Web Firewall Tester (v. x.x), whe re x.x represent the version number.
